Project Description

MCT has been developing a new Forum Theatre project to catalyze positive change in support of seniors in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Through this project, we aim to increase awareness of the challenges that this community experiences to foster intergenerational support and catalyze change.

In early 2026, we facilitated a series of in-person and virtual workshops with 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors in Ontario. Through fun theatre games and exercises, participants built solidarity with one another as they shared their stories, experiences, and the challenges they face.

These sessions involved theatrical explorations, facilitated discussions, and opportunities for mentorship and support. Through this process, our facilitator/playwright, Tony Babcock, worked collaboratively with participants to create role-play scenarios that depict universal challenges faced by this community, called “Worn with Pride”. We intend for this theatrical presentation to eventually be presented for larger audiences to catalyze critical dialogue and generate new ideas to support this community.

“Worn with Pride” – Play Description

“Worn with Pride” is a Forum Theatre play set in a retirement facility. It centres on Marisol – a 74-year-old trans woman who has spent decades surviving by making herself invisible. When the facility Activity Director invites her to walk the runway of a Spring Fashion Show, Marisol dares to be seen. What follows is a collision between her fragile courage and the forces – social, financial, and familial – that have always conspired to keep her small.

The play traces Marisol’s journey across two timelines: her present-day life in the facility and a series of memory scenes that reveal the full arc of who she has been – and what she has lost along the way. It is a play about the cost of self-expression, and a rehearsal for fighting back.
