Project Description

Mixed Company Theatre artists will facilitate a series of Forum Theatre (FT) sessions with youth participating in Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women’s summer program in July.

Through interactive theatre games and exercises, participants will learn the foundations of Forum Theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed, using performance as a tool to express real-life challenges they experience. The program integrates our “Masks of Manipulation” methodology, which supports youth in identifying unhealthy social dynamics and developing practical strategies to respond with confidence and strong personal boundaries.

Participants will be divided into two groups: senior youth leaders and junior participants. Senior participants will take on leadership roles by co-creating Forum Theatre scenes based on their lived experiences and mentoring younger participants. Junior participants will build skills in emotional awareness, communication, and creative expression.

The program will culminate in an interactive Forum Theatre performance by the senior youth leaders where the junior participants and invited family members will actively practice problem-solving strategies within the scenarios, discovering options to foster greater youth mental wellbeing and engage in peer-to-peer learning.

This program will support a focused group of children and youth in developing skills that strengthen their confidence and ability to navigate challenging social situations.
