ABOUT MS. JANIE PINARD
Janie is a grade 12 major in arts and culture at L’Ecole secondaire Macdonald-Cartier and worked for the Sudbury & District Health Unit as a Youth Program Advisor to assist the school health promotion staff in modifying their programming to better meet the needs of the youth in the community. Her duties included developing media tools, for example; the Can You Feel It? video series reaching out to youth through technology by informing teenagers on subjects such as Teen Relationships. She helped form and facilitate youth engagement groups in two local priority schools in order to improve their school environment. Her passion for promoting health among her peers is apparent by her recent role as scriptwriter and recorder of health promotion radio ads done in partnership with Le centre de santé communautaire de Sudbury. After spending 9 years as a competitive dancer and 2 years of vocal training she has discovered a huge passion for theatre and music. Janie’s recent projects include: the role of Catherine in the Theatre du Nouvel-Ontario production of LES HUIT FEMMES, the role of Jeanie and choreographer in Y.E.S. theatre’s (Youth Entertaining Sudbury) production of HAIR, the role of Olga/Girl in the green dress and choreographer in Theatre Cambrian’s production of SINGING IN THE RAIN and the role of Arielle in LIVINGA DEADUS DANSLAVILLUS with Les Draveurs, a school theatre troupe. Janie is looking forward to playing Mimi in the upcoming production of RENT with Y.E.S theatre and performing and assisting at the Ontario Healthy Schools Coalition 10th Annual Forum. Finally she would like send all her love to the Tribe and blow a kiss to her parents, without their support, she would crumble.

The Rising Star Award
* The Rising Star Award Winners at the 1st Annual STARS Awards Gala: (From left to right: Simon Malbogat, Michael Gibson, Susie Jaroszewska, Councillor Joe Mihevc, Aidan Gowland)
As part of Mixed Company Theatre’s 25th Anniversary and the 1st Annual STARS Awards Gala, Mixed Company introduced the RISING STAR AWARD. This prestigious Award is presented annually to a young person who has demonstrated a commitment to educating, engaging, and empowering their peers and community to create positive solutions to challenging issues. Overwhelmed by the quality of nominations for their inaugural Rising Stars Award, Mixed Company Theatre is delighted to announce the inaugural RISING STARS:
Mr. Aiden Gowland
For over 4 years he has addressed systemic issues such as lack of representation of women’s stories in curriculum, currently working with teachers to develop a course on gender and sexuality. As a production director with Mixed Company’s I.M.P.A.C.T., he fought through physical and mental issues, but remained positive about his activism and art.
Ms. Susie Jaroszeska
Extensively involved in the A.M.Y. Project, a youth theatre-training program, Susie became the first Youth Liaison and mentor. She is a leader by example, identifying with the struggles of the people she works with because she has lived them herself. Spearheading her own arts initiative, Mizz Interpreted, a short documentary on youth arts projects, she developed the tools to help youth create their own projects.
